2010 Link Crew Scholarship Winners

2010 brought us 148 applicants. Hard as it is to decide, here are the top 10:

Abbye Torgerson
Ozark HS, MO

Post Graduation Plans: Abbye plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia this fall and pursue a degree in Biology/Pre-Medicine.

"[Link Crew] has helped me become more outgoing and shaped me into the leader that I am today."

Alison Lum
North Farmington HS, MI

Post Graduation Plans: Alison plans to attend the University of Michigan and pursue a degree in Elementary Education.

"Though I have learned an insurmountable number of lessons through my experiences as a Link Crew Leader, the most valuable lesson is to trust and support other people and their ideas. Too often we deny the opinions we deem unattainable. But, as a Link Crew Leader, I have learned that anything is possible, you just have to find a way to make it happen."

Andrea Castellano
Pojoaque Valley HS, NM

Post Graduation Plans: Andrea plans to attend New Mexico State University and study Nutrition and Dietetics along with Family and Child Sciences.

"I chose to be a Link Crew Leader because I wanted to make a difference in our freshmen's first year of high school. I wanted them to know that I was there for them to help them through the transition from junior high to high school."

Courtney Geibert
Beavercreek HS, OH

Post Graduation Plans: Courtney plans to attend Watburg College and will pursue a double major in Secondary American History Education and Religion.

"I would recommend other students to become Link Crew Leaders because it is a great way to build relationships among the upper and lower classmen. It also is a way for upperclassmen to share the knowledge they learned by attending high school for three or four years with those students that are just beginning their journey."

Dawnthea Price
Stafford Senior HS, VA

Post Graduation Plans: Dawnthea plans to attend Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism on her journey to "become an objective, ethical and entertaining journalist."

"The most valuable lesson I learned as a Link Crew Leader was that, sometimes, it's much more important to listen than it is to talk. Not every conversation requires me to give advice, because sometimes all that is needed is a friendly ear."

Dominic Schuh
Mauston HS, WI

Post Graduation Plans: Dominic plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and pursue a degree in Business-Accounting.

"The most valuable lessons that I learned as a Link Crew Leader were acceptance and character along with the knowlege that, from the socially awkward to the outgoing, every single freshmen is individually important and unique."

Kayla Laronde
Opeongo HS, Ontario

Post Graduation Plans: Kayla plans to attend Canadore College in North Bay and study Recreational Therapy.

"Before Link Crew I would not have considered myself a leader. I did not show any of the [typical] skills or personality [traits] a leader needs and I did not consider myself a motivator. Now I do. Now I have gained the leadership skills and have Link Crew to thank. "

Nai Saechao
Enterprise HS, CA

Post Graduation Plans: Nai plans to attend CSU Sacramento and pursue a major in Chemistry.

"As a Link Crew Leader...the most valuable lesson I learned was how to be a leader and how much it takes to be a good leader. I never knew how much it takes to be a leader until this year and am glad to have obtained such great leadership qualities from this program."

Sarah Politis
Fraser HS, MI

Post Graduation Plans: Sarah plans to attend the University of Southern California next year in order to pursue a major in Broadcast Journalism.

"I would absolutely tell other students to become a Link Crew Leader! There is no better way to find self worth and meaning than by helping someone else discover the world around them."

Steven Lam
Ygnacio Valley HS, CA

Post Graduation Plans: Steven plans to attend the University of California, Los Angeles and pursue a degree in Psychology.

"Link Crew gave me the initial confidence to become involved with my school. Instilling that same confidence to underclassmen that looked up to me was the most satisfying things to come out of being a Link Crew Leader. "
