Krista is a high school English teacher who has been teaching for 11 years and believes that the world is the best textbook. Krista has received many awards for her work, both in and out of the classroom. These include the 2005 Circle K Teacher of the Year, 2007 Arizona Teacher of the Year Ambassador for Excellence and the 2007 Crystal Apple Award. Krista believes that the best learning experiences happen when educational concepts are connected to something real, relevant and hopefully outside. For this reason, her students can often be found exploring caves, suspended in the air on a challenge “ropes” course, traveling to South Africa or simply walking in the beautiful Arizona desert with their journals in hand. Krista and her students also work closely with a variety of charities both local and international. It is her belief that to truly understand the world and all it’s wonders, both human and nature, people must dig in and get their hands dirty.
