Lance Brogden has enjoyed a wide variety of teaching experiences; including two years of teaching and coaching high school in a youth prison (Independence High School in Elko, Nv.); Ten years as a physical education and science teacher at Bidwell Junior High School where he started A WEB orientation program; the past six years as the Activities Director at Pleasant Valley High School where he also leads a team of Five Link Crew Coordinators.
Lance also was a head wrestling coach for eighteen years, starting while he was in college. He has coached at Durham High School, Independence High School, Bidwell Junior High, and finished at Pleasant Valley where he retired from coaching in 2006. Mr. Brogden is also active in the Chico Unified Teachers association on the executive board and as organizing chair. In the past Lance has worked as a wildland firefighter (on engines and helicopters) before he moved on to several summers as a whitewater raft guide.
Lance Brogden is a big fan of the St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, and Cornell Wrestling (NCAA).
Outside of school you will find Lance cooking and wine tasting with his wife Genie; being chased around the back yard by his Boston Terrier Raquel, and spoiling his nieces/nephews. Lance seems to consistently find a new fitness regimen in his attempts to keep up with the Boomerang staff. Finally, on a typical summer day – you will find Lance in his inflatable whitewater kayak enjoying the rapids on the Feather River, as whitewater is his favorite pastime.
Link Crew is most often discussed as a great tool for supporting your Freshmen as they transistion into high school. I 100% agree with this assessment, and my favorite piece of Link Crew is how the program develops a whole separate group of Junior and Senior leaders on your campus. A properly facilitated Link Crew Program creates leaders that will positively change your entire campus, not just your Freshmen.
