Clovis Unified School District started the school year smoothly Monday with roughly 700 more students than last year. More than 37,000 students entered classrooms at 43 school sites with little or no problems, said Kelly Avants, a district spokeswoman. At Alta Sierra Intermediate School, seventh graders were welcomed to school by eight graders as part of the "Where Everybody Belongs" program. The program is designed to ease the transition from elementary school to middle school. Watch video from Alta Sierra at fblinks.com/j9s
