Student Leadership

WEB is a student centered leadership and mentoring program. The guiding principle that sustains WEB is that there is an invaluable and untapped resource on your campus: students. This program engages, develops and trains older students on your campus to be leaders and mentors. WEB leadership is about more than events; it is about helping 6th/7th graders achieve success and it is that initial success that propels them toward continued success throughout middle school.

At the heart of the WEB program are your WEB Leaders. These are the 8th graders on your campus who volunteer to help the 6th/7th graders throughout the first year of their transition to middle school. The driving force behind the WEB program is the belief that the older students on your campus are capable of incredible things. In addition to facilitating learning experiences and instructing 6th/7th graders in valuable lessons on how to be successful in middle school, WEB Leaders step up and become a substantial presence on campus acting as models of positive behavior which is a catalyst for climate change on your campus. WEB Leaders act as lifelines for the 6th/7th graders and as supports for the adult coordinators, thus keeping the program alive throughout the year.

WEB Leaders are a cross-section of the student body. The most effective WEB program has representatives from all social groups at the school, thus giving 6th/7th graders an older student with whom they can identify. Through identification and connection to a WEB Leader, 6th/7th graders will start to see themselves as leaders on campus, too.
