Transition

WEB is more than just a one day event. This program spans an entire year at your middle school. The WEB Leaders not only help organize and guide the 6th/7th graders through orientation day, but they also help to facilitate a smooth transition both socially and academically throughout the year. Using a series of social, academic and leader initiated interactions, the WEB Leaders maintain contact with their 6th7th graders groups and mentor them throughout the year. Specifically, there are three ways WEB lives on your campus during the year:

Academic Follow Ups
These occur in a classroom setting; WEB Leaders visit 6th/7th grade classes to teach lessons on topics such as study skills, teamwork and the power of questions.

Social Follow Ups
These are school sponsored group activities that bring 6th/7th graders and WEB Leaders together for a variety of fun events such as group lunches, movie afternoons or field days.

Leader Initiated Follow Ups
These happen outside the classroom on a one-to-one basis and can be as simple as WEB Leaders saying “hi” to their 6th/7th graders in the hallways or calling them at home to check in and see how they are doing. More involved Leader Initiated Follow Ups include WEB Leaders spending time tutoring their 6th/7th graders or doing something special for their birthdays.

This three pronged approach to middle school transition is what sets WEB apart from other orientation programs. A 1998 study cited by the National Association of Secondary School Principals found that 6-8 contacts in a year are necessary in order to establish a relationship that truly makes a difference. With WEB 6th/7th graders experience at least 8 positive contacts with Link Leaders the first six weeks of school.

The WEB orientation and transition program provides a structure in which these connections and relationships can be made and maintained, in turn affecting change throughout the entire campus.
